What is HIV?

HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV attacks the immune system and prevents your immune system from working. When your immune system is damaged your body is unable to fight off infections which may cause you to become ill.

What is AIDS?

AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is the result of damage to your immune system caused by HIV. AIDS causes infections and tumours which take the opportunity to flourish in your body when your immune system has been damaged. These are called opportunistic infections.

Can I get HIV?

Anyone can become infected with HIV but unfortunately, in this part of the world, men who have sex with men are the most affected. HIV is mainly transmitted through unprotected anal sex (fucking without a condom). There have also been a very small number of cases where men have been infected through oral sex (sucking cock).

What can I do to prevent me from catching HIV?

Remember to use a condom for fucking or being fucked. If you have any cuts or sores in your mouth when sucking a guy off, it may be better not to let him come in your mouth as this increases the risk of HIV transmission. Condoms are available in all the bars on the scene and at Gay Men's Health.
