ANN MARRIOT REPORTS ON A RECENT LGBT YOUTH EVENT

On 22nd March the Peer Educators from LGBT Youth Scotland, along with volunteers from LIPS and Fast Forward staged a youth event called Take Control - We' re Worth It! at the Festival Theatre.

During the event there were various workshops surrounding diverse areas of health related issues such as drugs, alcohol, self-esteem and identity. These issues were explored through group activities and art. Performance poetry was another medium used in which participants could verbally express themselves. From this event an exhibit has been created for the Participation exhibition, which will be held at the City Art Centre between the 26th and 29th April.

The event was enjoyed by everyone and we look forward to working with Fast Forward and LIPS again. Also many thanks to DJ Spyke for spinning the tunes and Edinburgh City Council for helping to fund this exciting event.

If you are under 26 and would like to join us in our volunteer team please contact - [email protected]

Core is a partnership project representing the LGBT community in Scotland. Views expressed are not necessarily those of the partners. However, if they're witty, intelligent and insightful - they probably are. If you flicked through this mag, saw a photie and made an assumption about someone's sexuality - then you're about ten years behind what we're trying to do here. Click the mag off and walk away. Accurate at going online time, but hey, we didn't get this sarky without making mistakes.
