Regular Screening

It is possible to have HIV without knowing it. In the same way there are other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that you may not know you have.

Fortunately most STIs can be treated so long as they are detected soon enough. How often you get checked out probably depends on how many men you have sex with, and the kind of sex that you have.

A sexual health check up at the GUM every six months is recommended for sexually active gay men.

Sexually transmitted infections (such as syphilis, gonorrhoea, herpes and hepatitis) make HIV positive men more infectious and HIV negative men more vulnerable to infection.
